Privacy policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
Your data stays on your device. No Fjelia account is required. There is no server storing your health database. Support only receives reports you choose to send, including diagnostics if you enable them. The app contains no usage analytics, advertising or tracking. It connects to the services you choose and to weather and map providers when you use those features.
1. Who is responsible
Fjelia is a free, open-source hobby project by Alex Ebeling-Hoppe. Questions about privacy: use the contact form.
2. What data Fjelia handles
- Health and fitness data from the devices and services you connect and from Apple Health: activities, heart rate, heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep, steps, blood oxygen, energy, blood pressure, weight and body composition.
- Things you enter: a profile (for example sex, birth year, height, training preferences), race goals, manual measurements, notes and settings.
- Location, only while the app is in use and only if you allow it, to find the weather for heat-acclimation and planned workouts. You can use a fixed location instead or switch the feature off.
- AI chat messages that you send to the coach.
3. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored only on your device. The database is kept in the app’s private storage. Passwords, tokens and API keys are stored in the system keychain. Home-screen widgets read a small summary through an app group on the same device. Backups and exports are created only when you choose to make them. There is no Fjelia health-data server, and the developer cannot access your local database. Support reports you send are handled separately.
4. Services you connect
Your device connects directly to each service to download your data. For Garmin, it can also send planned workouts to your calendar. Sign-in details or tokens are stored on your device. Each service handles your data according to its own privacy policy.
| Service | Used for |
|---|---|
| Garmin Connect | Activities, sleep, HRV, heart rate, zones, body battery; sending planned workouts |
| Polar | Activities, sleep, recovery; optionally older sessions through your Polar Flow login |
| Suunto | Activities, sleep, recovery |
| COROS | Activities, sleep, recovery |
| Aktiia | Blood-pressure measurements |
| Renpho | Weight and body composition (cloud, optional) |
| Apple Health | Reading sleep, heart rate, HRV and more; optionally writing synced values back |
Polar Flow login (optional). Polar's official interface only shares the last 30 days. If you enter your Polar Flow e-mail and password in the Polar settings, Fjelia signs in to Polar's website once during the first history import or a full sync, reads your own training diary and imports older sessions. The login is kept in the system keychain on your device, is sent only to Polar and can be removed at any time in the same place.
Bluetooth devices (Hilo, Aktiia, Renpho scales, Garmin watches) connect directly to your phone. Fjelia asks for Bluetooth permission for this.
5. Weather, radar and maps
To show weather and heat information, Fjelia sends coordinates to Open-Meteo and Bright Sky (Germany). Builds with the optional keys can also use Pirate Weather and WeatherAPI. Radar images come from RainViewer and map tiles from OpenStreetMap. These servers can see your IP address and the map area you view. They are contacted when you use these features.
6. The AI coach
- Apple Intelligence (default): runs on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- Cloud providers (optional): OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral or DeepSeek. You add your own API key. Before anything is sent, Fjelia asks for your consent — for every message or once per session, as you choose. What is sent is your message plus a summary of your health and training data; names and GPS tracks are left out of that summary. The data goes directly from your device to the provider you picked and is then covered by that provider's privacy policy.
7. What Fjelia does not do
- No usage analytics, automatic crash reporting or advertising libraries. No tracking.
- No Fjelia account and no server storing your health database.
- No selling of your data. The developer receives only support reports you explicitly send.
7a. TestFlight
If you install a beta through TestFlight, Apple manages the installation. Apple may collect tester information, including your Apple ID, crash reports and feedback you submit, as described in its privacy policy. The developer only sees the information Apple provides in App Store Connect, such as installation counts and submitted feedback. Your health and training database is not included.
8. Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. Deleting the app removes its local database. You can disconnect services in Fjelia and revoke access in each service’s settings or in Apple Health. This does not delete data held by other services, such as Garmin Connect. Manage that data directly with those services.
9. Your rights
You manage your local health database on your device. To access, correct or delete a support report you sent, use the contact form. For data held by a connected service or AI provider, contact that provider. You can also use the form above to ask about this policy.
10. Children
Fjelia is not aimed at children.
11. This website
This static website is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.). It uses no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. Your language choice is saved locally in your browser. GitHub may process technical logs, including your IP address. See GitHub’s privacy statement.
Contacting support
If you send a website message or an in-app bug report, your email address, subject and message are sent to cloud.ebeling-hoppe.de. They are used to handle your request and are separate from your local health database. Diagnostics are excluded by default. They are only sent if you enable them. You can review the log first, as it may contain account or health details. Please do not include passwords, API keys or personal health readings. You can also send feedback through TestFlight or post an issue publicly on GitHub.
12. Changes
This page and its date are updated when Fjelia’s data handling changes. You can view the full history in the source repository.
